super welterweight showdown against unbeaten Australian star Tim Tszyu at Bankwest Stadium.

Missing Christmas with his three young daughters was one gut punch Kiwi boxer Bowyn Morgan was willing to absorb.

But spending an extra week away from his young family due to not having a Covid-19 managed isolation voucher until December 24, feels like a low blow ahead of his super welterweight showdown against unbeaten Australian star Tim Tszyu at Bankwest Stadium.

Morgan (21-1) and his longtime trainer Phil Shatford leave Christchurch on December 11 ahead of the December 16 fight – that is a co-main event with the heavyweight contest between Mark Hunt and Paul Gallen.

Morgan and Shatford hoped to leave Sydney the following morning, enabling them to exit managed isolation in New Zealand on December 30.

Instead, they will arrive back in New Zealand on Christmas Eve and will not taste freedom from managed isolation until January 8.

That means if Tszyu and Morgan go the distance in the 10 round fight for Tszyu’s WBO Global and IBF Australasian titles, Morgan will essentially spend one day away from home for every minute he fights.

Tim Tszyu Vs Bowyn Morgan fight Done Deal For 2020

October 29, 2020 by Charli Bear Leave a Comment

Highly ranked junior middleweight contender, Tim Tszyu will be taking a stay busy fight against New Zealand fighter Bowyn Morgan in his next contest in 2020.

The 25-year-old Tszyu (16-0, 12 KOs) is coming off of a career-best eighth-round knockout win over former WBO welterweight champion Jeff Horn last summer on August 26, Townsville, Australia.

According to Fox Sports News, this will be the 25-year-old Tszyu’s next opponent for 2020. It’s not the type of opponent that boxing fans wanted to see from Tszyu, but perhaps this is the best that his management could get for him during the pandemic.

The 31-year-old Morgan (21-1, 11 KOs) isn’t ranked in the top 15 at 154, and all of his wins during his six-year professional career have come against lower-level opposition in his native New Zealand.

Listed at 5’9 1/2″, Morgan looks very short, and it wouldn’t be surprising if his real height is closer to 5’6″. Against Tszyu, Morgan is going to look out of place, but that’s the whole idea.

This is a showcase type of fight for Tszyu, and it’s not meant to be competitive.

Tszyu should take care of Morgan in one or two rounds at best, and hopefully, there’s a good undercard paired with this mismatch.

Gallen v Hunt joins Tszyu in Bankwest Stadium mega-event

October 11, 2020 by Charli Bear Leave a Comment

Paul Gallen is “really confident” he will be able to take down UFC great Mark Hunt as the pair meet in a double-header boxing extravaganza co-headlined by Tim Tszyu at Sydney’s Bankwest Stadium on December 16.

Australian boxing star Tszyu (16-0) will fight New Zealander Bowyn Morgan (21-1) in his first fight since demolishing Jeff Horn in April.

NRL great Gallen and Hunt will finally meet in a heavyweight clash that’s been in the works for some time amid a long-running war of words.

The Sydney Super Fight is being billed as the biggest boxing event in the decade in the city with plans for a large live crowd and the event shown exclusively on Main Event

Hunt had 18 UFC appearances for eight wins, eight losses and a draw and has only competed twice in the boxing arena with his last bout coming in 2000.

Gallen, on the other hand, last fought in November 2019 in a majority draw with Barry Hall.

“We’ll have a beer afterwards,” Hunt said.

“I feel like Paul is a hard man and a strong guy.”

Gallen has plenty of experience on the NRL friend along with his time in the ring but Hunt is not all that impressed.

Tim Tszyu vs Bowyn Morgan, Paul Gallen vs Mark Hunt set for December 16th in Sydney

September 29, 2020 by Charli Bear Leave a Comment

Australia will host one more major boxing event this year, albeit an extremely strange one. Two previously announced matchups, Tim Tszyu vs Bowyn Morgan and rugby veteran Paul Gallen vs former UFC title challenger Mark Hunt, will share a December 16th card in Sydney’s Bankwest Stadium.

Both matchups feature Aussie vs. Kiwi action. Rockdale’s Tszyu (16-0, 12 KO) is coming off the biggest win of his career, an eight-round demolition of Jeff Horn this past August that left him the highest-ranked WBO super welterweight contender behind mandatory challenger Brian Castano.

Christchurch’s Morgan (21-1, 11 KO), an accomplished amateur who’s won 14 straight since a 2016 upset loss to Kris George, isn’t expected to dislodge him.

Gallen (9-0-1, 5 KO) against Hunt (0-1-1, 0 KO) would have been pretty one-sided about, oh, five years ago. Hunt’s now 46, on the wrong end of some nasty beatings, and will probably be taking advantage of the fact that he no longer has to make 265 pounds. I

’m pulling for the “Super Samoan,” but even a rugby convert might be too much for him at this point.
